Reed Richards is the greatest man alive in comic books.
Where Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr and Scott Summers failed before him, Reed has taken it upon himself to ensure the future of Mutant and humankind by creating The Future Foundation.
Dr. Richards was fairly neutral throughout Captain America’s Utopia War (Avengers Vs. X-Men). Only stepping in the final hours with the rest of the Illuminati to remind Tony Stark and Commander Rodgers both that they not only almost destroyed the Superhero community as a whole, but his marriage & family with their petty ”Civil War”.
I find it to be greatly unfortunate that Marvel basically made him nothing more than Cap’s bitch during all of this. The only member of the Fantastic Four to ever be a member of the Avengers is Ben Grimm, The Thing. Even then, he wasn’t comfortable attacking his friends, in their home, because Captain America can’t handle the fact that Scott Summers is his own man, and won’t bow down and take orders like some ignorant grunt in Rogers personal superhuman army. The Fantastic Four/Future Foundation remained neutral, because once again, Reed saw the inevitable; if they were to involve themselves wholly in what should later be determined as an illegal war and ultimately the kidnapping of Hope Dayspring-Summers, the public image, as well as private lives of the Richards Family, the Future Foundation, and The Fantastic Four, would’ve been destroyed all due to the acts of a selfish, myopic man like Captain America.
Reed was basically given no choice but to pass judgement on a man he called a friend and ally in Scott Summers. He made the wrong choice in the end, but he did, what he had to, for what he saw as the good of not just mutantkind, but Planet Earth as well.
Too top it all off? He’s still running a private academy for Mutants inside of the Baxter Building in Manhattan. Doing more for the betterment of both species, while still trying to find a way to reverse the genocide caused by Wanda Maximoff. Something strangely enough it seems Hank McCoy has all but given up on. What’s Logan doing? Half-assed, half-heartedly running an academy in New York named after the dead wife of another man while unknowingly harboring the reborn Apocalypse, and hiding behind the castle doors, waiting for the bad guys to come knocking and running a viper squad of lunatic fringe assassin mutants that was CREATED ON THE ORDERS OF CYCLOPS. X-Force is Scott’s team. Not Logans.
That animal should leave the teaching to better men, like Mr. Fantastic, and stick to what he’s good at; being a murderer, and turning his back on the people who cared for him most.
